I need some ideas for a big band era themed New Year's eve party?

Something that isn't retarded please. I'm 14 and my birthday party is basically going to be on New Year's and I love the 1940's style things. Well, I'm not usually a party planner person and I'm usually pretty lost. Please help. I want people to talk about this party. Make them say "Omg did you go to her party? I loved it!" Or something.
