Would it be possible to get the money from the insurance after I brought it into the body shop for an estimate?
My car got hit with a piece of plywood while I was at work, and the person who owned the plywood was nice enough to leave his number so I could get the money to repair it. He filed the claim and everything before I even called him, then I brought it into the shop to get the quote and get it repaired. They quoted the damage at $800 because they said that they need to replace the entire fender. I drive an '89 Dodge Daytona so obviously it is not easy for them to find a fender that fits perfectly. This was about a month ago, and I'm starting to wonder if it's even worth it to wait. Could the insurance just write a check for me after I've gone this far in the process? Or am I obligated to get it fixed after I brought it into the body shop?
If you take the check, and have the work not done you may be on the hook for the body shop for storage. Also if something else happens to your car later and there is pre existing damage you could be in for a hassle.
If I were you I would get your car fixed up nice. Plus they owe you for a rental while the work is being done.
